Shannon spent most of the next year working on the story, which ended after Zimmerman was acquitted in 2013. Living and serving in central Florida means covering at least a half-dozen hurricanes and just as many wildfires. Those stories have won Shannon some small awards, but she has yet to win an Emmy.
