He was the leader of the first American crew to cover the Darfur crisis in Sudan, and he has reported from more than 40 nations.
Lazaro has received an honorary doctorate from the Kaiser Family Foundation, as well as various journalism honors and media scholarships from the University of Michigan and the Kaiser Family Foundation. For his story on anti-trafficking campaigner Sunitha Krishnan, he received the CINE Golden Eagle and the Silver Angel Award from Excellence in Media, as well as the International Film and Video Festival Award for his report on a Thailand AIDS shelter.
