Kristy Steward Career
Kristy worked as a morning and noon meteorologist at WNKY in Bowling Green, Kentucky, before moving to Hampton Roads. She covered everything from flooding to droughts to tornadoes and even tropical remnants during her time in south-central Kentucky. Kristy fell in love with hurricane forecasting as the 2020 hurricane season approached, and she craved a move closer to the beach and closer to the tropical action. Kristy was also named runner-up for Best Weathercast in Kentucky by the Kentucky Broadcasters Association in 2020. She was a member of the award-winning team that won Kentucky’s Best Morning Newscast in 2019 and finished second in 2020.
In addition to her main meteorologist duties at WNKY, she anchors, co-hosts, and is the meteorologist for their sister station WGTA in Atlanta, GA. In addition, she began a weekly weather podcast with the evening meteorologist. She also went on three cross-country storm-chasing trips, which is ironic given her childhood fear of tornadoes. Previously had two internships, one at KTTC in Rochester, MN, and one at WRAL in Raleigh, NC. During her time at Penn State, she worked as a multimedia journalist/meteorologist on two student-produced weather-related television shows, providing her with two years of experience. During her senior year, she was one of two meteorologists on a student-produced newscast that aired live on the local PBS station, WPSU. For four years, she also worked as part of the Campus Weather Service, forecasting and delivering the weather to central Pennsylvania once a week.
