Ferrell’s health challenges had begun earlier in the year. She was hospitalized in May 2020 and spent more than four weeks in the intensive care unit, during which she experienced a cardiac arrest. Before that, in February 2020, she revealed to TMZ that she had been hospitalized the previous December in Charleston, West Virginia, after developing a severe kidney infection while staying at her vacation home. The infection spread to her bloodstream, requiring several weeks in the ICU before she was moved to transitional care in January 2020. Her recovery at home left her incapacitated for a month, during which she underwent intensive physical therapy several times a day. Ferrell noted that her husband remained by her side throughout the ordeal, providing constant support.
