Seth Meyers is a stand-up comedian, writer, producer, actor, and television host from the United States. On NBC, he hosts Late Night with Seth Meyers, a late-night talk show. Prior to that, he was a cast member and head writer for NBC’s Saturday Night Live, where he also hosted the news parody segment Weekend Update.

Meyers was raised in Okemos, Michigan, from the age of four to ten, and then in Bedford, New Hampshire. Hilary Claire (née Olson), Meyers’ mother, was a French teacher, and his father, Laurence Meyers Jr., worked in finance. Josh Meyers, his younger brother, is an actor.
His paternal grandfather was an Ashkenazi Jewish emigrant from Kalvarija in modern-day Lithuania, near Marijampol. His ancestors are also Czech, Austrian, Croatian (via his paternal grandmother), Swedish (via his maternal grandfather), English, and German. Seth discovered on the show Finding Your Roots that his great-grandfather changed his family’s original surname, Trakianski, to Meyers, after his own father, Mejer Trakianski.

Meyers went to Okemos’ Edgewood Elementary School. In New Hampshire, he graduated from Manchester High School West. He graduated from Northwestern University in Evanston (his hometown) in 1996, where he joined the fraternity Phi Gamma Delta. Peter Grosz, another actor, was his college roommate. He pursued a degree in film and television production. He served as Grand Marshal for the school’s homecoming parade in 2011. He delivered the commencement address at Northwestern’s graduation in 2016.

Meyers proposed to his five-year girlfriend, attorney Alexi Ashe, in July 2013. On September 1, 2013, the couple married in a Jewish ceremony on Martha’s Vineyard. Meyers told Jake Tapper on the December 4, 2018, episode of Late Night with Seth Meyers that while he is not Jewish, his wife is, and as a result, their children are raised Jewish. Alexi Ashe began working as an Assistant District Attorney in Brooklyn in July 2013, assigned to the Sex Crimes Bureau. She has since become an advocate for victims of gender violence at Sanctuary for Families.

On March 27, 2016, Ashe Olson Meyers was born at Lenox Hill Hospital. Axel Strahl Meyers, the couple’s second son, was born in the lobby of their apartment building on April 8, 2018. During Late Night’s Corrections segment on November 24, 2021, he announced the birth of his daughter, Adelaide Ruth Meyers. Axel’s middle name, Strahl, is derived from the surname of his wife’s Holocaust survivor grandparents.

On May 12, 2013, NBC announced that Meyers would take over as host of Late Night in 2014, succeeding Jimmy Fallon, who moved on to host The Tonight Show. Meyers joined Late Night on February 24, 2014, and his first guest was former Saturday Night Live castmate and Weekend Update anchor Amy Poehler. Meyers announced on February 10, 2014, that his house band “The 8G Band” would be led by Meyers’ former SNL colleague Fred Armisen. He and his Sethmaker Shoemeyers Productions company recently signed an overall deal with NBCUniversal.

Seth Meyers Saturday Night Live
Meyers joined the cast of Saturday Night Live in 2001 and has since played a variety of characters. He wrote sketches for Tina Fey’s presidential campaign in 2008, including the now-famous “I can see Russia from my house” line delivered by Fey’s Sarah Palin. During the 2013–2014 season, Cecily Strong served as Meyers’ co-anchor until his departure midway through the season. Meyers received critical acclaim for his performance in several memorable SNL sketches. During their time as Saturday Night Live Weekend Update hosts, Seth Meyers and Amy Poehler had a popular recurring bit called “Really!?! with Seth and Amy.”
Following Poehler’s departure from the show in 2008, the segment was revived several times when she returned as a guest. Poehler made a surprise appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers after Meyers left the show to launch his own talk show to mock Sports Illustrated sportswriter Andy Benoit.
