Samantha Bee Career

It was announced in March 2015 that she would leave The Daily Show after 12 years to host her own satirical news show on TBS. On April 30, 2015, Bee left The Daily Show. Full Frontal with Samantha Bee, her new show, premiered on February 8, 2016. Bee became the first woman to host a late-night satire show when the show debuted. Bee also attempted to implement a hiring process that would result in a more diverse staff for her late-night comedy show than is typical for a late-night comedy show. Full Frontal received positive reviews during its first season, and the show was renewed for a second season in November 2016.

After discussing Donald Trump’s immigration policy, Bee referred to Ivanka Trump as a “feckless cunt” in an episode of Full Frontal that aired on May 30, 2018. Bee apologized and “deeply [regretted]” the comment the day after it aired. Comedians Kathy Griffin, Michelle Wolf, Sarah Silverman, and Jon Stewart all defended Bee, with Stewart claiming that much of the outrage over the joke was pre-planned rather than genuine. The following week, the show featured fewer national advertisements. Bee began the episode by apologizing to any women she had offended and lamenting how one bad word had overshadowed her criticism of the policy of detaining illegal immigrant children. Bee announced in December 2018 the formation of a new production company, Swimsuit Competition, as well as the signing of a first-look deal with TBS. The company will concentrate on developing narrative and documentary television projects for TBS.
