Quijano began her career in 1994 as an intern at WCIA-TV in Champaign, Illinois, and later rose through the ranks to become a reporter, producer, and anchor there. Quijano departed WCIA in 1998 to work for WFTS-TV in Tampa, Florida, as a general assignment reporter.
Starting in December 2000, Quijano worked as a correspondent for CNN Newsource, a CNN affiliate. She was in Kuwait City just before the US invasion of Iraq in 2003, covering the September 11th attacks. For approximately a month, she was in Kuwait. Quijano also reported on the Columbia Space Shuttle catastrophe in 2003 and the Beltway sniper assaults. Quijano joined CNN/US as a general assignment correspondent in Washington, D.C. in 2004.
She covered the Pentagon, the Supreme Court, President George W. Bush’s 2004 re-election campaign, and vice presidential candidate John Edwards’ campaign.
