Norah O’Donnell is a CBS Evening News anchor and 60 Minutes correspondent. She was a former co-anchor of CBS This Morning, a CBS News Chief White House Correspondent, and a substitute host for CBS’s Sunday morning show Face the Nation.

O’Donnell was diagnosed with melanoma skin cancer in the fall of 2016. The official diagnosis was melanoma in situ,’ which means the cancer was contained to the epidermis and had not spread to the dermis or metastasized. Soon after, she had surgery to remove a “three-inch-long piece of skin from the upper left corner of her back.” She later stated that due to her high risk, she now has regular skin check-ups “every three to four months” and “multiple skin biopsies.”

O’Donnell has become a skincare advocate in the years since her diagnosis, encouraging others, particularly women, to get regular dermatological check-ups and take better care of their skin by practicing good skincare routines such as using sunscreen. In 2017, she spoke openly about her diagnosis with her dermatologist on CBS This Morning.

She was also a contributing anchor for MSNBC Live and an anchor on Weekend Today. O’Donnell contributed to NBC News broadcasts such as NBC Nightly News, The Today Show, Dateline NBC, and MSNBC. O’Donnell hosted Hardball with Chris Matthews in place of Chris Matthews and was a regular pundit on The Chris Matthews Show.

Since joining CBS, she has served as an anchor on several of the network’s highest-rated shows, including multiple appearances as a stand-in for Scott Pelley on the CBS Evening News, the first of which was on October 10, 2011. In 2011 and 2012, she was the chief White House correspondent, and in the fall of 2012, she joined CBS This Morning as a co-anchor. Susan Zirinsky, president of CBS News, announced on May 6, 2019, that O’Donnell had been named anchor and managing editor of the CBS Evening News beginning July 15, 2019.
