Garrett was the Network’s chief White House correspondent from 2012 to 2018. Garrett reported extensively on presidential steps to combat ISIS, Ebola, nuclear negotiations with Iran, and US-European efforts to challenge Russia in the Ukraine dispute while covering the White House for CBS News. Garrett covered the Obama administration’s handling of the healthcare website launch, multiple policy mistakes at the Veterans Administration, and the president’s ongoing efforts to address racial tensions and criminal justice reform in 2014. He has gone to Asia, Europe, and the Middle East with the president.
Garrett covered the Republican presidential campaign for 16 months in 2015-2016, covering every GOP debate, both major party conventions, and every day of the final election. Garrett shattered a number of cabinet appointments during the transition, including Jeff Sessions’ confirmation as Attorney General.
