Penny knew she wanted to work in the news since she was 13 years old when she volunteered to broadcast the 8th-grade morning announcements at her North Royalton, Ohio, elementary school. Previously, she worked at KFDA in Amarillo, Texas, where she covered breaking news and filled in on the anchor desk.

Penny gained a variety of experiences in the Texas Panhandle, including working closely with law enforcement during a string of drive-by shootings, researching long-term COVID-19 side effects such as hair loss and high blood pressure, and even a three-part series on the opening of Amarillo’s first luxury boutique hotel.

Penny began her career in sports as a digital producer and writer for NBC Sports Washington, where she interned before becoming a freelance employee. Additionally, Penny then moved on to the NCAA, where she worked as a sideline reporter and on-air talent for The Patriot League Network and American University, covering men’s and women’s division I basketball.

She covered the city’s newly passed marijuana laws and regulations while in Washington, D.C., and assisted in the development of social media strategies for a new museum, The National Museum of the American People.
