Sam Rubin was an American journalist best known as the longtime entertainment reporter for KTLA Morning News and as a host of entertainment talk shows and television specials. Over a career spanning more than three decades, he became one of Hollywood’s most recognizable entertainment journalists, interviewing countless film and television stars. He was also a co-author of two biographies, one about former First Lady Jacqueline Onassis and another focusing on actress Mia Farrow.
Born in San Diego on February 16, 1960, Rubin began his career in entertainment journalism in the 1980s, working for Group W, the National Enquirer, and Fox Entertainment News. In 1988, he began hosting hourly entertainment news breaks for the Movietime cable channel, further establishing his presence in the industry.
As KTLA’s entertainment correspondent, Rubin frequently appeared on other media platforms, including KNX radio, The Joan Rivers Show, and WGN Morning News. Internationally, he served as the regular Hollywood reporter for ITV’s This Morning in the United Kingdom and for Australia’s Nine Network on Today and Today Extra.
On May 10, 2024, Rubin suffered a heart attack at his Los Angeles home and was rushed to the hospital, where he died. His final television appearance aired the day before his passing.
