The local homebuilder is the owner of SC Homes, based in Corona del Mar. There may yet be a show about him and his sharks and sports cars – a reality show on HGTV about extreme high-end homebuilding if the pilot gets picked up. But that hasn’t happened yet.
The HGTV show that he is on now is called “Professional Grade.” It’s about regular folks trying to do their own home improvements. The show’s judges – Cross is one – tell people how much their handwork would cost if done by professionals, and they’re given a cash prize matching the difference.
Cross describes their tasks as “simply aesthetic. It’s not moving walls or anything.” Then he remembers the pair “actually did blow out a wall.” That’s aside from replacing the “cabinets, appliances, counters, tile backsplash, tile flooring, new plumbing fixtures, paint and drywall, molding, some heat and air ductwork, and moving around some plumbing.”
Cross followed his father into the construction business nine years ago, after graduating from San Diego State. The show isn’t his first time in front of the cameras. In 2009, he led a crew of thousands of volunteers for an episode of ABC’s “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.”
