Strahan’s father sent him to live with his uncle Art in Houston the summer before his senior year of high school so he could attend Westbury High School. Strahan only played one season of football, but it was enough to earn him a scholarship from Texas Southern University. Strahan joined the National Football League after graduating from Texas Southern University in 1993.
Michael Strahan Family
Strahan is the youngest of six children and the son of basketball coach Louise (Traylor) Strahan and boxer Gene Willie Strahan, a retired Army Major with a 1–1 record against future heavyweight Ken Norton. He is Art Strahan’s nephew, a retired NFL defensive lineman. Michael’s family relocated to Mannheim, West Germany, when he was nine years old, to an army post known as BFV (Benjamin Franklin Village).

From 1992 to 1996, he was married to his first wife, Wanda Hutchins. Wanda Home Designs Owner, Interior Designer, and Decorator is an American businesswoman. Tanita Strahan is their daughter, and Michael Anthony Strahan Jr. is their son. Strahan relocated them to the United States and purchased a $163,000 home in the same Houston neighborhood as his parents.
Strahan married Jean Muggli in 1999 after meeting her at a spa. Isabella and Sophia, their twin daughters, were born in December 2004. Strahan currently resides on Manhattan’s Upper West Side. On July 20, 2006, Strahan and Muggli finalized their acrimonious divorce. Muggli was awarded $15 million in a divorce settlement by Judge James B. Convery in January 2007, in addition to $18,000 in monthly child support.
Strahan filed an appeal. The court ordered the auction of the Montclair, New Jersey mansion in March 2007, with the proceeds split evenly; the house was valued at $3.6 million. Strahan married Nicole Mitchell, Eddie Murphy’s ex-wife, in August 2009, but the couple divorced in 2014. Michael Strahan Super Bowl
Strahan had two tackles and one sack in Super Bowl XLII, one of the biggest upsets in NFL history. The Giants went on to win the game 17–14, thanks to a strong defense and unrelenting pass rush, defeating the then-unbeaten 18–0 New England Patriots, giving Strahan his first Super Bowl victory. “Stomp you out!” he exclaimed.
Strahan announced his retirement from the NFL on June 9, 2008. Strahan finished his 15-year career with 141.5 career sacks (fifth all-time when he retired), 854 career tackles, four career interceptions, 24 forced fumbles, and three career touchdowns in 200 games (through the 2007 season). He was also selected to the Pro Bowl seven times. Strahan was not elected to The Pro Football Hall of Fame on February 2, 2013; it was his first year of eligibility. When Strahan was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2014, Super Bowl XLVIII, which was played in East Rutherford, New Jersey, was dedicated to him.
Strahan was joined by the other members of that year’s PFHOF class in performing the ceremonial coin toss. Strahan also commented on the trophy presentation for Fox, as Terry Bradshaw (who had previously commented on the trophy presentations for Fox’s previous Super Bowl broadcasts) was mourning his father’s death. The Giants presented him with his Hall of Fame ring during halftime of the New York Giants-Indianapolis Colts game on November 3, 2014. There were 100 former Giants players in attendance, as well as Strahan’s former teammates.

Michael Strahan Fox
Strahan joined the Fox NFL Sunday pregame show on June 24, 2008, alongside host Curt Menefee and analysts Terry Bradshaw, Howie Long, and Jimmy Johnson.
When Fox acquired the rights to broadcast Thursday Night Football in 2018, it was decided that Strahan, Bradshaw, and Long would co-host the Fox NFL Thursday pregame show. Fox NFL Thursday is broadcast live from New York City rather than Los Angeles to accommodate Strahan’s other live shows (see below), as a coast-to-coast commute on a Thursday night/early Friday morning would be impractical.
Michael Strahan Good Morning America
Strahan co-hosted Live! with Regis and Kelly as a guest host with Kelly Ripa for the first time on October 1, 2010, when Regis Philbin was absent. Philbin left in November 2011, leaving a vacancy. Strahan was chosen as Kelly Ripa’s new co-host on September 4, 2012, marking his first official day on the renamed syndicated talk show, Live! with Kelly and Michael, after twenty guest appearances over two years. Ratings soared immediately, with year-over-year time slot gains across all key demographics, outperforming its nearest competitor, NBC’s Today’s fourth hour, by 87 percent. Strahan announced on April 19, 2016, that he would be leaving Live! with Kelly and Michael to work full-time on Good Morning America.
Strahan began co-hosting a daytime talk show spin-off of Good Morning America, initially titled GMA Day, with Sara Haines in 2018. Strahan and Sara was renamed Strahan and Sara in January 2019, then Strahan, Sara, and Keke in August 2019, to reflect the addition of actress Keke Palmer. Due to ABC News’ coverage of the COVID-19 pandemic, the show was eventually canceled in March 2020.
