Hostin began her legal career as a law clerk for retiring Chief Judge of the Maryland Court of Appeals Robert M. Bell before moving on to the Antitrust Division of the US Department of Justice. Hostin left the Antitrust Division to work as a federal prosecutor in the area of child sex crimes. For her successful prosecution of sex offenders, Hostin received a Special Achievement Award. Hostin was previously a Managing Director of Business Intelligence and Investigations at Kroll, the world’s largest risk-consulting firm, where she oversaw teams of investigators working all over the world to investigate and discover fraud.
She began her television career as a pundit for Court TV before being granted a role on Fox News’ The O’Reilly Factor, where she debated with Bill O’Reilly and Megyn Kelly on the show’s “Is It Legal?” segments. In September 2007, CNN President Jon Klein hired her as a legal commentator for the network’s flagship morning show, American Morning. Hostin began appearing as a guest contributor on ABC’s daytime talk show The View in 2014. She also participated in the Mother’s Day edition of Food Network’s Chopped in 2014. She was knocked out in the last round, although she returned the following year for the Amateurs Redemption episode, which she did not win.
Hostin gave a TEDx Talk in 2015 called A Possibility Model, which discussed the effects of childhood trauma.
