Oke interviewed former American president Jimmy Carter, presidential hopeful and soccer star George Weah, and Africa’s first female head of state, Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, while covering the historic elections in Liberia in 2005. As part of a fellowship she received from the National Association of Black Journalists, she traveled to Liberia.

In Argentina and Mozambique, Oke has helped the World Meteorological Organization of the United Nations train meteorologists for international broadcasts. The University of Liberia, Emory University, University of South Carolina, European Commission, World Food Programme in Rome, and United Nations Development Programme in New York, Nairobi, and Monrovia are just a few of the institutions where I’ve given speeches and lectured.

Oke has covered a wide range of scientific and feature stories since joining CNN in 1999, including reporting live from the Salt Lake City Olympics in 2002. Oke most recently worked as a correspondent for CNN’s Johannesburg, South Africa, bureau for several months, covering stories from Angola, Burkina Faso, and Kenya.

Oke’s contributions to Africa were honored in 2007 with the “African Achievers Award 2007” by The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the African Communications Agency. Before joining CNN, Oke worked as a weather presenter in London, England for London Weekend Television and Carlton Television.

Throughout the UK, Europe, the Caribbean, and the US, she has also presented, reported for, and produced news and current affairs programs, science, educational, and entertainment programs. Some memorable experiences include battling a crocodile in Jamaican mangroves, hosting “Top Of The Pops,” the longest-running music program in the UK, for the BBC, and reporting from a British Antarctic Survey refrigerator in minus 37 degrees Celsius. When she was 14 years old, she started her career as a junior reporter for LBC, the UK’s first talk radio station.
