At WECT in Wilmington, North Carolina, Chris held his first position in television as a photographer, reporter, and sports anchor. Chris began working for WAVY-TV in November 1989 as a photographer before quickly transitioning to a reporter.
Chris gained notoriety in Hampton Roads as a “one-man band” thanks to the success of his television show Carolina Country. Unique people, places, and events in Northeastern North Carolina were highlighted in the weekly feature. The Associated Press named Carolina Country, which ran for three years, the best feature in the state of Virginia.
Chris has covered a wide range of sports, including college bowl games, major league baseball, the Daytona 500, and NFL playoff games. Chris has won numerous honors since joining the sports staff at WAVY and WVBT, including an Emmy for his work covering Old Dominion’s return to football in 2009. Since joining HRS, his efforts have raised thousands of dollars for numerous non-profit organizations while raising awareness of significant community events. His weekly segment “Reck on the Road” highlights the diverse people, locations, and activities that make his hometown so unique.
