Andrew Shue American actor is best known for playing Billy Campbell on the TV show Melrose Place. Additionally, he briefly played professional soccer. He co-founded the social networking website CafeMom and served on the board of directors for Do Something.

Shue’s mother, Anne Brewster, is a bank executive who served as vice president of the Chemical Bank Corporation’s private division. His father, James William Shue, was a Republican politician who served as the president of the International Food and Beverage Corporation and was also a lawyer and real estate developer. James William Shue had previously run unsuccessfully for the New Jersey U.S. Congress. His father was of Pennsylvanian German origin, while his mother was a Brewster family descendant. Elisabeth Shue, who is Shue’s sister and an actress, co-starring in The Karate Kid with him in one of his first uncredited film roles.

In 1989, Shue graduated with a history B.A. from Dartmouth. He went to Zimbabwe after receiving his degree, where he played soccer and taught high school math at Founders High School.

Shue co-founded DoSomething with his boyhood best friend Michael Sanchez. He is currently a director on the board. Shue and Sanchez launched the social networking site CafeMom together in 2006. Highland Capital Partners and Draper Fisher Jurvetson are the principal investors. The website offered a place for moms to network and exchange ideas and advice online.
On May 24, 2018, the community forums for CafeMom were closed at 5:00 EST. The closure was justified by the corporation as being caused by high advertising costs. The CafeMom is now a collection of businesses that also includes the well-known Latina website MamasLatinas, blog The Stir, and Baby Name Wizard. With the help of Chuck Nice and his mother-in-law Joan Robach, Shue co-hosted the podcast “Mad Life.”

Shue participated in football for Bulawayo Highlanders while he was in Zimbabwe. The Highlanders won the CBZ Cup and the Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League that year. Shue was the sole player of white descent in the Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League at the time. He participated in one game for Los Angeles United of the Continental Indoor Soccer League in September 1993. He participated in two games for the Anaheim Splash in July 1994. Shue played for the Los Angeles Galaxy of Major League Soccer in 1996 while still living on Melrose Place, recording one assist in five games. He was placed on injured reserve for the entire 1997 campaign.

Shue received the part of Billy Campbell on the Aaron Spelling soap drama Melrose Place in May 1992. He appeared in a movie with Courtney Thorne-Smith, who he subsequently dated. Shue remained a cast member for six years. He made an appearance in the Matt Damon and Claire Danes movie The Rainmaker during this time as a violent husband.
Shue and former SportsCenter anchor Charley Steiner are exchanged in a 1996 ESPN commercial for SportsCenter, with Steiner moving to Melrose Place and Shue to SportsCenter.
