Her general assignment beat took her to the streets of Austin where she covered live breaking news, politics, education, health, and human-interest stories. She was the first female African-American on-air reporter at KVUE-TV. After graduating, Neville worked as a reporter/anchor for WWL in New Orleans. She returned to Texas in 1988 and worked as a reporter for Houston’s KHOU-TV for a year. Neville joined WVUE as an anchor/reporter and moved back to New Orleans.

Extreme Close-Up, a one-on-one celebrity interview program that she co-produced for E! Entertainment TV, hired her as host in 1991. In her three years with the show, she conducted over 200 interviews with celebrities ranging from Will Smith, Tom Cruise, and Sharon Stone to David Bowie, Whitney Houston, and Sade, and she established herself as the first prominent black female entertainment reporter in the country. She also covered live entertainment events for the network during this time, and she occasionally acted as a guest host on Talk Soup, the network’s flagship program (hosted by Greg Kinnear). She became the first African-American woman to host a nationally syndicated entertainment news magazine program in 1994 after defeating over 1,000 competitors to launch and anchor Extra for Warner Brothers Studios. Neville stayed with Extra until 1996 when a new version of the show debuted.

She co-hosted The Arthel & Fred Show, a syndicated daytime entertainment news program that had just one season, in 1997 with L.A. sportscaster Fred Roggin. A year later, Neville moved to New York from Los Angeles and started working for Fox News as an anchor, correspondent, Celebrity Spotlight host, and senior correspondent for the syndicated news magazine Fox Files. He also contributed once a week to The O’Reilly Factor.

Together with Dick Clark, Neville co-hosted the Miss Teen USA 1993 pageant. Neville and Bob Goen of Entertainment Tonight co-hosted the Miss Universe 1994 pageant in Manila, Philippines. Additionally, she has made appearances on Girlfriends, Moesha, Cybill, Living Single, Days of Our Lives, Monk, The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, and Days of Our Lives.

The first African-American woman to host her own branded program on the news network was Neville. She won praise for her reporting on Hurricane Katrina in her native New Orleans. In 2003 Neville was recognized by the University of Texas at Austin for her outstanding contribution to broadcast journalism. In the fall of 2006, she additionally worked as a guest co-host on The View. Neville currently serves as Fox News’ weekend anchor for the “Fox News Live” midday, afternoon, and evening newscasts on Saturday and Sunday. She also covered the fifth anniversary of Hurricane Katrina from New Orleans for Studio B and Fox Report. Neville was the first African American woman to receive the DeWitt Carter Reddick Journalism Award from the Moody College of Communication in 2017.
