He started his career as a correspondent for Channel One News, a national high school news program broadcast daily. Later, he worked for KHSL-TV in Chico, California, as an anchor and host. On KLSD, an all-sports radio network, he co-hosted The Jim Brown Show. Kilmeade worked as part of Jim Brown’s announcing team for the first Ultimate Fighting Championship event in 1993, delivering post-fight interviews. In 1994, he became the play-by-play announcer for UFC 2 and UFC 3.
Beginning in 1997, Kilmeade worked as a freelance sports anchor for WVIT (NBC) in Hartford, Connecticut.
