Carson Daly Career
Daly began his broadcasting career at San Jose, California’s KOME radio station. Daly was then assigned to KOME’s sister station KROQ in Los Angeles, where he would work from 6 to 10 p.m. Daly was hired by MTV to work as a VJ for MTV’s summer beach house programming, “Motel California,” during his employment at KROQ.
MTV hired Daly as a fulltime VJ towards the end of the summer of 1997, requiring him to relocate to New York. Daly began presenting MTV Live after arriving in New York. From 1998 until 2003, Daly hosted MTV’s TRL. TRL was inspired by two previous shows, “Total Request” and “MTV Live,” both of which included Daly as the host. As host of the famous live show, Daly was responsible for introducing the top ten videos of the day as well as interviewing celebrity guests. Last Call with Carson Daly premiered in 2002.
