Ed O’Keefe was appointed as a home page editor by The Washington Post in 2005. Later, he worked as a producer and on-air contributor for Washington Post Radio before covering the 2008 presidential campaign as a multiplatform reporter, contributing blog reports and video dispatches from the campaign trail while also producing and hosting “The Post Politics Podcast,” which aired on Sirius XM’s POTUS Channel. Following the elections, he spent four years as the author of The Federal Eye blog, covering federal agencies and workers. He covered the conflict in Iraq for a portion of the summer of 2011 before moving on to Congress. He covered the 2016 presidential campaign, focusing on Republican contenders, before returning to Capitol Hill coverage.

He was a frequent guest or participant on news shows on BBC, CBS, CNN, Fox News, France 24, MSNBC, NPR, PBS, and Sirius/XM before joining CBS News. In 2017, O’Keefe began contributing to CBS News, and in 2018, he became a full-time political correspondent in Washington. He continues to appear on the PBS program Washington Week as a panelist on occasion, including as co-moderator at times.

Since joining CBS News, O’Keefe has reported from across the country on the 2018 midterm elections and contributed to coverage of other major events in Washington, including the State of the Union, Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearings, dramatic testimony from former Donald Trump associate Michael Cohen, and the funerals of former Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and former President George H.W. Bush.

O’Keefe spoke with numerous contenders, including Democrats Steve Bullock, Julian Castro, Kamala Harris, Kirsten Gillibrand, Amy Klobuchar, Bernie Sanders, and Elizabeth Warren, as well as Republicans William Weld, in the early months of the 2020 presidential campaign cycle. Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan told O’Keefe in his first national television interview on the issue that he was seriously considering a Republican primary challenge to President Trump but later backed out. In the early stages of Howard Schultz’s exploratory phase, O’Keefe spoke with the former Starbucks CEO.
