He subsequently relocated to New York City, where he worked as an anchor for WNYW/WWOR-TV and as a freelance journalist for CBS Newspath, where he covered CBS MoneyWatch. He then worked as a reporter for CNN Newsource, where he covered the 2010 BP oil spill, the 2011 Japanese earthquake, and tsunami, 2011’s Hurricane Irene, the 10th anniversary of the September 11 attacks, and reported live from the New York Stock Exchange Trading Floor on the financial crisis of 2007–2008. He was named CBS News Los Angeles reporter in February 2013, and he was recognized for his coverage of the 2013 shooting by Christopher Dorner.

With nearly 20 years of experience covering big national and international issues, he joined CBS News. Evans’ footage of the police firefight with the accused killer and former LAPD officer Christopher Dorner in February 2013 drew widespread notice. When officials in Big Bear, California, closed in on Dorner following an extensive manhunt, he was the only reporter on the scene. Evans was most recently a CBS News freelance correspondent.

He formerly worked for CNN Newsource for four years as a business journalist, contributing over 20 live shots per day and rotating as the host of CNN’s financial Q&A feature “The Help Desk.” He also reported from the New York Stock Exchange trading floor on the 2010 BP oil spill, the 2011 Japanese earthquake, and tsunami, Hurricane Irene, the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks, and the “Great Recession.” Evans formerly worked as a reporter and anchor for WNYW/WWOR-TV in New York. He also worked for CBS Newspath as a freelance reporter, covering the California wildfires and stepping in for “CBS MoneyWatch.”

Evans relocated to Los Angeles in 2003 and spent the next four years reporting for KCBS/KCAL, where he covered President Ronald Reagan’s death and a state funeral. He also worked for E! News on the red carpet and hosted their Golden Globes countdown show in 2004. Evans began his career in media as a freelance reporter for the CBS station KGMB-TV in Honolulu, Hawaii, in 1995.
