She began her journalism career in 2006 at WBOC-TV in Salisbury, Maryland, and Dover, Delaware, and stayed there until 2008, when she moved to WFSB in Hartford, Connecticut, and New Haven, Connecticut. Her work took her to Hearst Corporation in 2012, where she reported from Washington, D.C. for their 26 stations. In 2014, Jackson joined NBC News as a writer and journalist, where she covered the Ted Cruz presidential campaign as an embedded reporter. Jackson began anchoring the 1 p.m. ET episode of MSNBC Live, NBC News’ midday coverage platform, in late summer 2016.

Jackson was named as NBC’s main White House correspondent in January 2017, along with the announcement that she will switch time slots and host MSNBC’s 10:00 a.m. hour. On September 20, 2021, Jackson went to MSNBC Live at 3 p.m. On November 17th, 2021, Jackson began hosting Hallie Jackson NOW on NBC News Now, a streaming channel that airs Monday through Friday at 5 p.m. ET.
