Harris got her start in interior design while working at Caban, an interior products business, where she had the idea to start offering design consultations. Scott Morison, the co-founder of the Canadian restaurant business Cactus Club Cafe, then hired her to design his establishments. With a diploma in interior design from the British Columbia Institute of Technology in 2006, she was able to formalize her interior credentials. Morison then rehired her as the designer for Browns Socialhouse, his new restaurant chain.
Harris was a participant on the thirteenth season of the American television show The Bachelor in early 2009, where she competed against 24 other women for Jason Mesnick’s heart and came in second place. She was cast as the star of The Bachelorette’s fifth season in mid-2009, creating history as the franchise’s first Canadian star. She chose Ed Swiderski as her season’s winner, and the two became engaged before breaking up. She worked as a designer on Extreme Makeover: Home Edition in 2010.
