Karl began his work at The New Republic as a researcher and reporter. He joined the New York Post as a reporter in 1994, covering New York City Hall. He joined CNN as a Generation X correspondent in 1996 to cover politics and later became the network’s Congressional Correspondent.
He became the Senior Foreign Affairs Correspondent for ABC News in January 2003, covering the State Department. In 1994, he had his first interview with Donald Trump for a New York Post article about Michael Jackson and Lisa Marie Presley’s honeymoon at Trump Tower.
