Morris left the Legion of Christ in 2009 and became a diocesan priest for the Archdiocese of New York. Later, he worked as the parochial vicar of New York City’s Basilica of St. Patrick’s Old Cathedral in the Soho district. He was transferred to Corpus Christi Church in Manhattan in 2013 to work as the program director of The Catholic Channel on SiriusXM radio and as a chaplain at Columbia University.

Morris was appointed pastor of The Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in the Bronx in February 2015. It is situated on East 187th Street. Pope Francis granted his request. Morris had been granted his request to be taken out of active ministry by Cardinal Timothy Dolan.

In May 2009, Morris started a recurring segment for the late-night news/comedy program Red Eye on Fox News Channel. Morris responded to viewer inquiries on matters of religion and spirituality for this segment, Father Knows Best. He also frequently contributed news segments to the program. He started contributing to The Wall Street Journal in the same year. For the History Channel special The Real Face of Jesus?, which followed a team of computer and 3D experts as they uncovered forensic data from the Shroud of Turin and extrapolated a new image of the man’s face from the shroud, Morris was interviewed as a theological advisor in March 2010.

Morris took on the role of program director for The Catholic Channel on Sirius XM in 2012 and served in that capacity until 2015. Morris is the author of two books: God Wants You Happy: From Self-Help to God’s Help and The Promise: God’s Purpose and Plan for When Life Hurts. The Way of Serenity: Finding Peace and Happiness in the Serenity Prayer is his most recent book. Morris starred alongside Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, and Joe Pesci in the 2019 movie The Irishman as Frank Sheeran’s priest at the nursing home.
