Gibson began his broadcasting career at the NBC station in Rochester, New York. After three years of reporting there, he was hired as the morning anchor and reporter at WTXF in Philadelphia. He received two Emmys for “outstanding news reporting” and “sports feature.” He moved back to New York City to work as a lead reporter for WNBC NewsChannel. At NBC, he covered some of the biggest news stories of the day, including the Concorde crash. With his home just blocks away from the World Trade Center, he was one of the first reporters on the scene after the September 11, 2001 attacks.
Gibson joined CNN and CNN Headline News as an entertainment anchor and occasional news anchor in January 2002. During his three years there, Gibson was frequently seen on the red carpet, including at the Academy and Grammy Awards. Gibson has also worked as an evening news anchor for KSWB-TV in San Diego, California, and as a host, on HGTV’s I Want That!
Gibson joined CBS News in Los Angeles in June 2010 as a west coast correspondent for CBS Newspath. Gibson also worked as an entertainment correspondent for the network’s affiliate service, covering stories such as Mel Gibson’s 2011 trial, in which the actor agreed to plead guilty to a misdemeanor battery charge.
