From 2000 to 2005, she worked for Cable News Network (CNN) International as a current affairs presenter and anchor of its Inside Africa program, where she interviewed people such as Thabo Mbeki, George W. Bush, Shimon Peres, and Oprah Winfrey. She worked out of the company’s headquarters in Atlanta. She had previously worked for SABC.

She returned to her home country after CNN to help prepare for the upcoming soccer world cup. She was the head of communications and international relations for the 2010 LOC (Local Organising Committee) from 2006 to 2008, but she abruptly resigned on February 8 without explanation.

Tumi Makgabo has worked as a broadcaster for more than a decade[when?] in South Africa as well as as anchor and co-producer of ‘Inside Africa’ at CNN International’s headquarters in Atlanta, US.
