Roth is the CNN employee with the second-longest tenure. He joined CNN as deputy bureau chief and assignment editor in the network’s New York office when it first began in 1980. In 1981, he worked as an assistant bureau head in New York, then as the Chicago bureau chief in 1982, and finally as the Rome bureau chief from 1982 to 1986. Roth worked as an anchor and reporter for AP Radio and as a producer for WPIX-TV in New York before joining CNN.
