Terry Baddoo Biography

Terry Baddoo is a television executive and former TV host with roots in both England and Ghana, and he currently calls the United States home.

Baddoo kicked off his career in the mid-1980s with BBC Schools television, and he later took the reins as the host of the news and current affairs program Black Londoners on Radio London. He then made his way to BBC TV, where he served as a reporter and presenter for the children’s news show Newsround, covering significant global events like the fall of the Berlin Wall, the end of apartheid in South Africa, and the Barcelona Olympics. His journey continued at BBC News, where he worked as a sports reporter and presenter on BBC Breakfast News and BBC World, while also freelancing for Sky, focusing on football and producing rugby features.

In 1995, Baddoo became the main U.S.-based sports anchor for CNN International’s World Sport, where he delivered live daily news and feature shows from CNN Center in Atlanta and reported from major sporting events around the globe. He also provided sports updates for all CNN International news programs and regularly contributed to the CNN World Sport website. By 1999, his work had gained recognition, particularly with Sports Illustrated.

Baddoo parted ways with CNN International on March 31, 2011, and soon after, he hosted the international English-language coverage of the London Olympics for CCTV News. In 2014, he took on the role of Director of Sports Programming for BeIN SPORTS, overseeing the network’s U.S. operations based in Miami, Florida.

In October 1995, Baddoo joined CNNI.  Baddoo has covered virtually every major international sporting event in recent years, from World Cup football matches to the past three summer Olympics, Grand Slam tennis tournaments, and World Championship boxing matches. He has interviewed football’s David Beckham and Pele, gold medal Olympians Michael Johnson, Marion Jones, and Carl Lewis, cricketers Steve Waugh and Wasim Akram, tennis superstars Andre Agassi, Steffi Graf, Venus, and Serena Williams, Formula One racing’s Michael Schumacher, and boxing’s Lennox Lewis.

He worked in BBC Schools television in the mid-1980s before hosting the news and current affairs show Black Londoners on Radio London. Later, he joined BBC TV as a reporter and presenter of the BBC children’s news program, Newsround, for which he covered numerous global events, including the fall of the Berlin Wall, the end of apartheid in South Africa, and the Olympic Games in Barcelona. He later freelanced for the satellite TV channel Sky as a football reporter and rugby features producer after working for BBC News as a sports reporter and presenter on BBC Breakfast News and BBC World. Baddoo left CNN International on March 31, 2011, with his final sign-off.  He went on to host Chinese State Television’s international English language coverage of the London Olympics on CCTV News. BeIN SPORTS hired him in 2014 as Director of Sports Programming for the network’s US operation in Miami, Florida.
