She isn’t the only one who has jumped on the plant-based bandwagon. New cookbooks like Mostly Plants, products like Banza chickpea pasta, and meal delivery services like Plantable all laud the virtues of eating more vegetables, beans, fruits, nuts, seeds, and whole grains, making it easier than ever to do so. Is eating a plant-based diet really that much better for you than keto, paleo, or any of the other diets you’ve seen on Instagram lately?

Sheinelle chose to eat mostly vegan for the first month, but she intends to consume eggs and shellfish afterward — which can still be considered plant-based. To get enough potassium, magnesium, and calcium, she advises low-fat, unsweetened dairy products and dairy replacements (such as unsweetened soy milk). “These nutrients help to counteract the effects of sodium in the diet and reduce bloating,” London adds. Including seafood on your plate of vegetables can also aid to provide your body with omega-3 fatty acids, which are good for your brain.
