Amy Avery Career

Amy spent the previous five years in Oklahoma working for Griffin Communications at stations in Oklahoma City and Tulsa before moving to Norfolk. Amy was the Weekend Morning News Anchor/Reporter at KOTV in Tulsa most recently.

Amy’s reporting at KOTV helped the station win several Edward R. Murrow awards. Amy covered numerous major stories in Oklahoma that made national headlines. This includes coverage of Tulsa Police Officer Sgt. Craig Johnson’s shooting death. He was the first officer killed in the line of duty in Tulsa in 26 years. She was also on the scene of an oil rig explosion that killed five people in Quinton, Oklahoma in 2018, and she covered the wrongful death lawsuit that the victims’ families filed against the oil and gas company that followed.

Amy also spent several months in the spring of 2019 covering the devastating flooding in Eastern Oklahoma. She was also on the scene in Webbers Falls, OK, in Muskogee County, where two unsecured barges were navigating the Arkansas River. Authorities were concerned that the barges would breach the dam, causing even more flooding in the town below. Hundreds of homes were flooded to the roof lines as the flooding spread for miles.

Amy previously worked as the Weekday Evening News Anchor/Reporter at KNOP in North Platte, NE, and spent a year in Parkersburg, WV as the Daybreak Producer and overnight reporter.
