Jon Dowding Biography

Jon Dowding is an American journalist working as the Weekend Evening Anchor/Reporter at WAVY-TV. He began working as a Reporter/Multimedia Journalist at WAVY-TV in March 2021. He joined the On Your Side team in May 2022.

Jon Dowding Career

Jon worked as a bilingual reporter/anchor for the student-produced news program Temple Update during his time at Temple. He was the anchor for two NATAS Mid-Atlantic Pillar Award-winning Best College Newscast episodes. In Philadelphia, Jon interned at NBC10/Telemundo 62 and The Q Show on Fox 29, as well as CBS News in Washington, DC. Jon’s interest in political journalism began with his work as a member of the Temple DNC News Bureau at the 2016 Democratic National Convention for the website AllDigitocracy.org. He is also a Next Generation Radio Alum, having graduated from NPR’s Next Generation Radio Program. Outside of the newsroom, Jon traveled 3,500 miles across the Atlantic for a five-month Study Abroad Program in northern Spain.

He comes to us from our sister station WSAV-TV in Savannah, Georgia, where he was a Digital Multimedia Journalist. Jon launched WSAV Ahora, the market’s first digital news program in Spanish, as well as a weekly digital political show called ‘All Politics Are Local.’ He covered the pandemic, Hurricane Dorian, and New York Governor Andrew Cuomo’s visit to Savannah. Jon also interviewed all four candidates for Georgia’s U.S. Senate and provided extensive on-air and online coverage of the Peach State’s two historic 2020 elections.

If he isn’t planning his next trip, you can find him at the beach, the gym, or trying out some new restaurants. Jon is eager to learn everything there is to know about Hampton Roads.
