She relocated to Dubai, where she worked on radio for Channel 4 FM and Ajman TV, where she hosted a weekly music show. She returned to the UK in 2003 and began her BBC career as a travel presenter and producer at BBC Radio Berkshire. She then moved to the BBC South Today newsroom in Southampton, where she reported and produced for the station. She moved on to BBC Spotlight Channel Islands in 2007, where she worked as a video journalist and evening bulletin presenter.
Sharma joined the BBC News Channel in 2008, initially as a host of the Your Money program. She took over the main business role in early 2009, and then moved to the BBC News Channel, BBC One, and BBC World News in her current full-time presenting role. Sharma served as live anchor from the main Broadcasting Centre in London for the BBC World News programme Newsday, which began airing from its new studios on 31 July 2015, while Rico Hizon was assigned the main broadcasting role from Singapore. Sharma took part in a panel discussion about the “World Travel Market global trends report 2013,” which was prepared for the World Travel Market and Euromonitor International.
She noticed: “The global economy has stabilized in 2013 compared to 2012, with 3.1 percent (gross domestic product) growth predicted for the year.
