Thompson worked as a production assistant for GMTV on a research and production project after graduation, before joining Sky Sports in January 2001. Since then, she has contributed to Sky’s coverage of major athletic events such as the US Open Tennis and the A1 Grand Prix, Grand Prix Masters, Speedway World Cup, Race of Champions, America’s Cup, and the 2011 Wimbledon Championships. She was a broadcaster on Sky Sports News, where she was most famous for her show Afternoon Report, which she hosted until December 29, 2011.

In 2005, she and David Frost co-hosted Sky1’s Greatest Sporting Legends series. From 2010 to 2011, she was a frequent panelist on Sky1’s A League of Their Own for the first four seasons. Thompson was ranked the 93rd Sexiest Female in the World in the May 2007 issue of the British men’s magazine FHM.

Thompson left Sky Sports News on December 29, 2011 to become a Sky Sports F1 presenter. Thompson co-hosted the Friday night magazine show The F1 Show with pit-lane reporter Ted Kravitz for the 2012 season, and on race weekends, he co-hosted the Sky Pad segment of Sky’s F1 coverage, usually with Anthony Davidson. In 2013, Thompson joined Fox Sports as a panelist on Regis Philbin’s sports talk show Crowd Goes Wild, which aired its final episode on Thursday, May 8, 2014. Thompson was appointed as one of the new hosts of BBC Radio 5 Live’s Saturday Morning comedy show Fighting Talk on July 1, 2014, sharing duties with comic Josh Widdicombe. They both left in August 2016, and Colin Murray, the former host, returned.
