Pegues has also established himself as one of the leading journalists covering the probe into Russian election meddling in 2016. “Kompromat: How Russia Undermined American Democracy,” his most recent book, examines how Russian President Vladimir Putin’s hackers gained access to voter lists in the United States and what is being done now to protect election systems in states around the country.
Pegues has three Emmy Awards, multiple local and national Emmy Award nominations, the Society of Professional Journalists’ Sigma Delta Chi Award, and was a member of the CBS News team that won an Edward R. Murrow Award in 2017.
Pegues has covered presidential elections, natural catastrophes such as Hurricane Sandy, active shooter incidents, and terrorist assaults for more than two decades. Pegues worked at WABC-TV in New York for over ten years before joining CBS News. Pegues previously worked at WBAL in Baltimore as a weekday anchor and reporter. In the late 1990s, he also hosted the top-rated evening newscasts at WSVN in Miami.
