Jane Pauley Biography
Jane Pauley is an American television host and author who has been in the news business since 1972. Beginning at the age of 25, Pauley rose to prominence as Barbara Walters’ successor on the NBC morning show Today. From 1976 to 1989, she was a co-anchor, first with Tom Brokaw and later with Bryant Gumbel. She briefly collaborated with Deborah Norville in the late 1980s.

According to her memoir, Skywriting: A Life Out of the Blue, Pauley described herself as such a shy little kid that she let her second-grade teacher call her Margaret Pauley all year instead of telling her she preferred her middle name, Jane. Pauley has always looked up to her older sister, Ann, who has been her closest confidante since she was a child.

Pauley, a speech and debate champion at Warren Central High School in Indianapolis, won first place in the National Forensic League’s Girls’ Extemporaneous Speaking division in Indiana. From 1976 to December 29, 1989, Pauley co-hosted the Today show. From 1980 to 1982, she also hosted the Sunday edition of NBC Nightly News.
