Jen Psaki is an American political consultant who was the 34th White House press secretary from 2021 and 2022. She formerly worked as the White House deputy press secretary and the spokeswoman for the US Department of State while she was a member of the Democratic Party.

Psaki departed CNN in November 2020 and joined the Biden-Harris transition team. Psaki was appointed the White House press secretary for the Biden administration later that month. After the inauguration, on the evening of January 20, she had her first press conference.

On May 6, 2021, Psaki hinted that she will leave her role as press secretary “in about a year from now” in an interview with former Senior Advisor to President David Axelrod.

Psaki was charged in October 2021 with breaking the Hatch Act for her remarks regarding the Virginia governor’s race that year. Psaki said that she had tested positive for COVID-19 on November 2, 2021. She was placed in quarantine but was released on November 12, 2021, after fully recuperating. Psaki will most likely depart the White House “about May” in 2022, according to a report from Axios, and take a position at MSNBC. Her departure from the position was announced by the White House on May 5, 2022, and Karine Jean-Pierre was named as her principal deputy in her place.
